VIDEO A12-2: ARDS (Ultrasound).

From: Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, 20e

This video demonstrates B-lines, an ultrasound artifact seen with abnormal lung parenchyma. B-lines are vertical hyperechoic (white) lines seeming to radiate from the top of the screen at the pleural line. B-lines can be seen with any process which results in interstitial change or alveolar filling (e.g., pneumonia, pulmonary edema). These are also sometimes referred to as “comet tail” artifact.
