Introduction

The purpose of this activity is to allow students to practice developing patient-specific recommendations, verbally communicating these recommendations to a prescriber on the phone, and thinking extemporaneously when communicating with prescribers.

Learning Objectives
  1. Identify and assess drug therapy and disease state problems, using patient-specific information.

  2. Develop clinically appropriate solutions to the drug therapy and disease state problems identified.

  3. Clearly communicate drug therapy concerns and therapeutic recommendations to health care providers.

  4. Outline evidence to support a specific therapeutic recommendation when communicating with prescribers.

  5. Develop alternative solutions to the identified drug therapy and disease state problems following rejection of the first-line recommendation.

  6. Demonstrate professionalism, and maintain rapport and composure when communicating with prescribers.

Assignment Instructions

After reviewing the patient information in the Student Instructions document and developing recommendations for the patient’s prescriber, practice verbally communicating these recommendations.
