Back complaints are extremely common. In patients with back complaints, a thorough history will help immeasurably in determining the cause of these complaints. It is important to document onset, duration intensity and functional limitations of any back complaint. It is also important to include the presence or absence of neurologic, especially radicular symptoms. Understanding the anatomy helps the examiner evaluate the back.
