Review of Neuroanatomy

A thorough understanding of neuroanatomy is critical to accurate physical assessment. It is even more important when the examiner uncovers a neurologic abnormality. Understanding neuroanatomy and neurologic function is critical for the examiner to determine if the finding can be explained by one lesion, multiple lesions, or a diffuse process. This understanding also allows the examiner to determine if the process is central or peripheral. While a thorough review of neuroanatomy and physiology is beyond the scope of this module, we will review selected portions of anatomy and physiology.
