His clinical practice experience is in ambulatory care for government-insured, privately insured, and under-/uninsured patient populations. Dr. Chen’s research interests center around strategically initiating and quantifying the value of patient care services delivered by pharmacists including impact on health care quality, medication safety, total health care costs, and satisfaction. He has received individual and team awards for his work including the Best Practices Award from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in 2002 and 2008, the American Pharmacists Association Pinnacle Award for team and individual career achievement in 2007 and 2013, respectively, and the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Inaugural Community Transformative Award in 2009. Dr. Chen is Co-Chair emeritus of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services (PSPCs) Collaborative, a government-supported program that promoted the spread of clinical pharmacy service integration in safety net medical homes across the nation.
