AB Melanoma  is  a  serious  form  of  skin  cancer  and  is  the  sixth  most  common  cancer  in  men  and  seventh  most  common  cancer  in  women.  In  the  United  States,  approximately  68,720  new  cases  of  melanoma  were  diagnosed  in  2009,  leading  to  8650  deaths.  The  outcome  and  survival  rate  of  melanoma  is  dependent  on  the  stage  of  the  disease  at  diagnosis  (Table  16-1).1-4
